Holiday cheer in different languages
Believe it or not we are in the Holiday Season!
Eyes on the road ahead with desire to create and find cheer around us, we are about to leave 2020 in the rearview mirror. While the majority of the world celebrates Christmas with Santa Claus, a number of European countries celebrate it with St. Nicholas. Other parts of world celebrate completely different festivities in December. With so many different versions of holiday celebrations, the phrase used to spread cheer for the season is Happy Holidays or Season’s Greetings and Happy New Year.
Some of the holidays and festivities people celebrate around the globe are:
- St. Nicholas Day – December 6 (Czech Republic, Germany, Netherlands)
- Christmas Lights – 7 days before Christmas Greece
- Christmas Eve and Day – December 24 and 25 (All Christian countries)
- Boxing Day – December 26 (United Kingdom)
- Thirteen Yule Lads – December 23 (Iceland)
- St. Lucia Day – December 13 (Sweden)
- Ded Moroz – December 31 (Russia)
- Simbang Gabi – December 16 – 24 (Philippines)
- Las Posadas – December 16 – 24 (Mexico)
- Dongzhi Festivals – December 21 (Korea, Vietnam, China)
- Hanukkah – December 10 – 18 (Jerusalem or anywhere in the world by Jewish people)
- Kwanzaa – December 26 – January 1 (Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania and mostly in the United States)
- Omisoka – December 31 (Japan)
- New Year’s Eve – December 31 (the world)
Today dealing with a global pandemic, we look for new and creative ways to show love and kindness. Perhaps a happy holiday wish in the language of the recipient may sound slightly more cheerful this year. How about you spread this year’s holiday cheer by sending ‘Happy Holidays’ and ‘Happy New Year’ in the language of your client?
Go ahead, copy and past the translation of the greetings below in the language you need and make the best of this Holiday Season. We see the light at the end of the tunnel twinkle a little brighter every day.
